I miss Escalante....
After searching, and surfing internet looking for the people that was friends of my father I came across the Escalante page. Wow. After reading and re-reading some more, I can't get over it. Escalante has moved up in the world. It has come a long, long way from 1987 when I first visited my parents there. Whenever Escalante comes to mind all I could remember is the Ted Koppel late night show with breaking news about Escalante Masacre. Oh yeah, I was sick to my stomach. Then when I was finally able to travel I went home because my mother was very sick. My father told me at the time she was dying. I dropped everything, left my husband and two tiny children just to be by my mother's side. When I arrived in Escalante....it was a broken little town. People were afraid to open thier doors. I 've noticed some was peeking thru thier window's small crack. And my father and mother took me touring to remind me if I remembered where everything is or everyone. Of course I remembered. It was a boiling place when I left at a young age. Only the Mayor and whoever was with him was living a very previlige life-style and all of us were starving to death that's why i was sent to work at a very young age. I got lucky and God scooped me up with his hands and put me here in United State of America and blessed me. I helped as much as I can with my families in Escalante but I had no idea what was transfiring over there during that period. Not until that late night show with Ted Kopel (he died a long time ago). Then when I got home to my parents in Escalante '87, my father showed me the Town hall, the yard where the people was sprayed with machine guns propted up on the roof of the the town hall building. It must have been some kind of a gatling gun and a bunch of it because those bullets sprayed all the way across the park, highway, and sprayed holes on the front of the one and only Bank in Escalante at the time. That bank was working fine when I left. While it's true that I didn't came back until after ten years or so, there was no excuse for those bullets flying all over hell and killing 15 people , wounding 28 or twenty nine others and shoot out the whole town 's spirit just because somebody in the Mayor seats could not comprehend what he had in his hand anymore. He decided to play God. Well, my father 's spirit died, his physical body died later on pining for the Escalante. I see all these documents and compared it with the USA declarations with its aids(monetary help) to all the victims of that masacre...but all my father ever got is broken heart. One thing I know, he had made the difference about Escalante from there on. But, I didn't know just how much until now ...that I am reading these court document. He never wanted to be rich, not if he is looking at his friends and next door neighboor starving to death. What he wanted was for corruptions/oppressions to stop. And from the way of looks of things now...It is stopping. Of course, I am my father's daughter, and I know that corruptions will never stop completely. There's always one born every day all over the wrold. But, to those who had been there, and seen that, and have done all the hard work, don't ever forget. Always keep a kin eyes on anyone that would start the bleeding over again. My children are the first generations of my family line to be born in USA. And my father and mother was proud of that fact. But, they also went to thier graves borken hearted. They both understood at the time that they may never see thier American Apos at all because Philippines was not a secured country..and Negros Occidental is not even in the Map. So, they both died with out seeing them in person. I longed to have my children (now fully grown and have thier own wives and kids) to be able to tour Esacalante someday. Good luck Mayor Yap. I hope God be with you and keep Escalante and its citizens happy, contented, and well balance which will lead to a prosperius and secured future for everyone as a whole. I will visit Escalante again. I don't know anyone there now, but i hope this won't stop the town from treating me with kindness after all, I am one of you. Thank you for the website it brought me home in my heart. I could cry like this all night. Please, keep posting as much as you can, if possible. Also, post some pictures of new sites to see , and maybe recommend a nice place in town to stay while visiting, for me everything has to be in town so i can smell escalante. Hey, I used sell boiled eggs on the bus stop in front of the two story building that was supposed to be a nice market..but was never use. If it's there, then it's Escalante.
